Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) – HLTINF005
APPLICATION $50 | RPL $399
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that allows you to gain nationally recognised qualifications based on your existing skills and workplace experience. Instead of completing full training, RPL assesses what you already know and do in a real working environment.
This pathway is ideal for those already working in body piercing, tattooing, cosmetic tattooing, or other skin penetration industries. You’ll demonstrate your competency through evidence of your current practice, including workplace procedures, experience, and supporting documentation.
Our RPL application is fully online and interactive, with a $50 non-refundable application processing fee.
Once your application is approved, the next step is completing the full RPL program, priced at $399.
To get started, simply add the application to your cart at checkout. You’ll then receive access to your student portal and application instructions.

Course Information
What is RPL?
RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) is a process that assesses your current skills and knowledge against the requirements of a nationally recognised unit, without needing to complete full training.
Who is this RPL course suitable for?
This is suitable for anyone already working in the skin penetration industry, including body piercing, tattooing, cosmetic tattooing,
or similar roles where infection control practices are used daily.
How does RPL differ from traditional training?
Instead of learning the content from scratch, you provide evidence of what you already do in your workplace. You are assessed on your existing skills and knowledge.
What evidence would I need to provide?
You may be asked to provide a resume, workplace examples (such as photos, SOPs, or policies), employer references, previous training records, and written or practical evidence depending on your experience. All evidence must be relevant and mapped against the requirements of the HLTINF005 or SHBBINF002 unit of competency.
What skills will I need to demonstrate?
You will need to demonstrate knowledge and practice of infection control, including sterilisation, hand hygiene, cleaning procedures, sharps disposal, and safe workplace practices.
How does the RPL process work?
The process includes:
- Initial eligibility review - Application Process
If approved, followed by:
- Evidence submission
- Assessment against unit requirements
- Identification of any gaps
- Outcome and issuance of the unit if competency is achieved
How much does RPL cost?
There is a $50 non-refundable application fee to begin, followed by $399 for the full RPL assessment program once your application is approved.
How do I get started?
Simply add the application to your cart and complete checkout. You’ll then receive access to your online portal and next steps.
What if my application is unsuccessful?
If your application is not successful, or if gaps in your competency are identified, our team will discuss your options with you. This may include additional gap training or further evidence requirements to meet the HLTINF005 unit standards. Please note that additional training or assessment may incur additional fees, which will be discussed with you prior to proceeding.
