Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment process that recognises the skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained through previous training, employment, and industry practice.
The 11035NAT Specialist Body Piercing RPL pathway is designed for experienced body piercers who can demonstrate competency in professional body piercing practices.
This process allows your existing skills and knowledge to be assessed against the requirements of the nationally recognised 11035NAT Course in Specialist Body Piercing. The qualification combines three nationally recognised units:
- HLTINF005 Maintain Infection Control Standards
- NAT11035001 Advise on specialist body piercings
- NAT11035002 Provide specialist body piercings
The RPL process is completed online and requires you to provide evidence demonstrating your current skills, experience, and knowledge within the body piercing industry.
Our RPL application is soley online and interactive, with a $50 application processing fee.
Once your application is approved, the next step is completing the remainder of RPL program, which is priced at $1,499.

Course Summary
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a formal assessment
process that recognises the skills, knowledge, and experience you have gained

The 11035NAT Specialist Body Piercing RPL pathway is
designed for experienced body piercers who can demonstrate competency in
professional body piercing practices.
This process allows your existing skills and knowledge to be
assessed against the requirements of the nationally recognised 11035NAT
Course in Specialist Body Piercing. The qualification combines three
nationally recognised units:

- NAT11035002 Provide specialist body piercings

Who is this RPL for?
This RPL pathway is suitable for experienced body piercers
who:
- Have been working within the body piercing industry
- Have completed previous piercing training
- Regularly perform body piercing procedures
- Have knowledge of infection control, sterilisation, client
consultation, and piercing practices - Can provide evidence of their industry experience and skills
This is not designed for beginners or individuals with
limited piercing experience. The RPL process is designed to assess existing
competency gained through industry experience.
Student Requirements
- Students must have some form of piercing training or experience to qualify for RPl in Body Piercing
- Students need to be at least 18 years old in order to have sufficient maturity to advise on and provide body piercings.
- Basic Language, literacy and numeracy skills in English (LLN)
- Victorian Student Number (VSN) - Victoria only
- Unique Student Identifier (USI) – Australia wide
- Access to a functional pc or tablet device with internet access and Google Chrome internet browser.
Course Requirements
To be eligible for RPL, applicants will need to provide
evidence of their existing skills and experience.
Examples of evidence may include:
- Details of previous body piercing training
- Evidence of employment or self-employment within the
piercing industry - Portfolio of completed work
- Photos/videos demonstrating piercing procedures
- Evidence of infection control practices
- Workplace procedures or documentation
- Client consultation and record-keeping processes
- Any relevant qualifications or professional development
All evidence must be relevant and mapped against the requirements of the HLTINF005, NAT11035001 and NAT11035002 units of competency.
Course Fee
RPL Application: $50 (non-refundable application
processing fee)
Once your application has been reviewed and approved:
Full RPL Program: $1,499
The application process allows our team to review your
experience and determine whether RPL is an appropriate pathway before
commencing the full assessment process.
Course Delivery Method
Online only.
The RPL process is completed through an online interactive assessment pathway.
Course Duration
Online theory and assessment access remains available for 3
months.
Most students complete the RPL process within 1–3 months
depending on the evidence provided and any additional assessment requirements.

Your skills and knowledge will be assessed against areas
including:
- Professional body piercing practices
- Client consultation and advice
- Jewellery selection and suitability
- Piercing site assessment
- Contra-indications and risk considerations
- Infection prevention and control practices
- Sterilisation processes
- Equipment safety and use
- Consent and client education
- Post-piercing care advice
- Professional and legal responsibilities
These areas align with the skills and knowledge covered within the 11035NAT Specialist Body Piercing course.
What happens after my application?
Once your application has been submitted:
Your experience and evidence will be reviewed by our
assessment team.
We will determine whether your existing skills align with
the requirements of the qualification.
If gaps are identified, additional training or assessment
may be required.
Once competency has been successfully demonstrated, you may
be eligible to receive the nationally recognised qualification.
Important Information
RPL is an assessment pathway, not a shortcut or guaranteed qualification.
Applicants must demonstrate that their existing skills and knowledge meet the requirements of the qualification. If additional gap training or assessment is required, this may need to be completed before competency can be awarded.
